The Guided Imagery Script below calls forth a response from a part of you that dwells just below the threshold of your ordinary consciousness.  It provides you with an opportunity to connect with the dreamy, wise, and creative aspects of this inner resource.

 The script is most effective if you have someone read it to you or make a tape recording of it in your own voice.  It should be read slowly and clearly with substantial pauses wherever you see three dots (…). 

 Listen to the script at a time when you can be uninterrupted for its duration. Follow the suggestions, remembering that visual images are not essential.  Just leave you immediate surroundings behind and allow yourself to be fully in the script.

  The Script   

Begin by taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly…Now, take a second deep breath and exhale slowly once again…Take a third deep breath and, this time as you exhale allow your eyes to close…With your eyes closed, turn all of your attention inward, leaving behind everything in your immediate surroundings.

Enter now into a night scene, a night illuminated by a full moon…A night on which you stand outside, feeling at one with your surroundings…You are caressed by the same balmy breezes that are rustling the trees…As they sway, the trees seem to whisper gently in your ear…It is a night for seeing and hearing wonderful things.

You turn full face to the moon and feel bathed in its luminous white light…Its light both reveals and conceals…Light and shadow remind you that mystery is always present in life…There are always new discoveries to be made…As clouds drift across the face of the moon, she becomes a veiled goddess, guiding you through the night.

And you know she will keep some things hidden, including herself at times…But tonight she is bright, offering enlightenment…You pause expectantly…And you hear, faintly at first, the hooting of an owl…The sound becomes clearer…You search the trees…And catch among the branches the glowing eyes of the bird of night, the messenger of the goddess moon.

This is your opportunity to learn from the night, from the things that dwell in the shadows…I invite you to remain in calm silence, now…Spend a few moments just listening…The owl has some bit of wisdom to give you…Listen (pause here for one full minute).

Slowly now bid farewell to this beautiful place…You may return again whenever you wish…  The moon, the wind, the trees, and the owl will assuredly return to you in the external world as well as in your dreams…They will continue to bring you their gifts…Open your eyes to them, now.
